Pikes (Esocidae), carps (Cyprinidae), catfishes (Siluridae), perches (percidae).

Groups of freshwater and semi-anadromous fish species belong to these families. In general, they are registered in catch statistics as small and large ordinary fishes. Among semi-anadromous and freshwater fishes, carps arc the-most abundant by species composition and mass by catch volumes. The Volga-Caspian region was always the main supplier of vobla, bream, common carp, pike, catfish and other fish that are of unlimited demand.

Common carp is one of the most valuable carp species. Its catches in the Volga-Caspian Region were rarely more than 10 thou­sand tonnes and presently are at the level of 2-3 thousand tonnes. Due to the sea water level rise migration of common carp to the Volga delta decreased. It spawns in desalinated coastal insular zones. Similarly to bream, it is reared at the FFH.

Crucian carp (Carassius auratuq gibelio) appeared recently in large amounts in the lower parts of the Volga river (from Volgograd to the estuary). In Astrakhan it received the name buffalo, which is probably associated with I he import of American fish into the Volhzskiy experimental fish farm and information about that fish appeared in media.

Among predators the most important are: zander the most valuable fish, the catches of which during the Freshwater crayfish (Astacittae), Two freshwater crayfish, spe­cies inhabit the Caspian Sea basin: long-clawed (Poslasiacus leptodactylus) and Caspian (P. eichwaldi). The first, one inhabits the Volga-Akhtubinskaya flood plain, the Volga delta, eastern substeppe side waters and avant-della. The second one is spread in the west-substeppe side waters, central and western delta areas, as well as at peninsula Mangyshlak and coast of Turkmenistan. The state of stocks is determined by natural climatic conditions, lexicological situation and catching. Crayfish is sensitive to pollution. They often die during wintering. recent years are 0.7-0.9 thousand tonnes, pike 2.5-3.0 thousand tonnes and cattish -5.0-7.0 thousand tonnes.
